Doug Phillips – Roadmaster
Brown Township has 51.15 miles of roads. The Township owns 28.22 miles while the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) owns 22.93 miles of the roads.
The Township is responsible for maintenance of the 28.22 miles. This includes plowing and cindering during winter events, resurfacing the roadway when needed, and mowing the grass/weeds along the edge of the roads.
The 22.93 miles owned by the PennDOT is maintained solely by PennDOT, the Township is not permitted to perform work on State roads.
The Township receives Liquid Fuels money annually, which is money allotted to each municipality from the State. This money can be utilized for the purchase of any equipment used for road maintenance (i.e. plow trucks, dump trucks, backhoes, etc.) and/or for the purchase of road salt and cinders for winter storm events and for resurfacing roadways. The Board normally tries to resurface between 1 and 1 ½ miles of roads each year.
